Freedom through strings and smiles

Sankranti, Lohri or Pongal- one festival that is celebrated all over India with many names and several connotation and denotations attached to it. The festival could represent the blending of old and new events through the colours of rangoli, letting go of the bad times by burning junk, flying kites and being liberated or celebrating the flavours of life through food.

On the festival, the youth of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ) community were flying high and celebrating their freedom of expression through strings and smiles.

On Saturday in People’s Plaza amongst hundreds others, the LGBT group met and flew kites. Perhaps this was one of those rare times when the group came out in a public space and flew kites competing with fellow Hyderabadis.
